General Motors:An American automotive based multinational firm with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan, secures first position in the list of non-German based companies by registering 12,290 patents in Germany. The company holds its core in manufacturing, designing, marketing, and distributing vehicles as well as their parts, such as cars (motorcars, normal cars), trucks, etc.
  2. Ford Global Technologies: An American automotive based multinational firm with headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, secures second position in the list by registering 7,367 patents in Germany. The company holds its core in manufacturing commercial vehicles and automobiles, such as luxury cars, and owns Brazilian SUV manufacturer, Troller, and FPV.
  3. Denso: An automotive based manufacturing company with headquarters in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, secures third position in the list by registering 6,659 patents in Germany. It holds its core in supplying and manufacturing auto-parts.
  4. Toyota Motor: A Japan based automotive manufacturing company with headquarters in Toyota, Aichi, Japan, secures fourth position in the list by registering 5,738 patents in Germany. The company holds its core in selling hybrid electric vehicles.
  5. Mitsubishi Electric: A Japan based electronics and electrical based manufacturing multinational firm with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, secures fifth position in the list by registering 4,251 patents in Germany.  This company holds its core in manufacturing of photovoltaic panels, electric and architectural equipment.
