Google’s new-found interest in amassing thousands of patents contradicts previous statements by Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt that condemned other companies who use patents as tools for filing lawsuits. But then Google is under attack by its rivals. “Rockstar” recently filed 8 separate lawsuits against Google on use of Android operating system. So, the company has decided to amass patents and according to some reports is being awarded as many as 10 patents in a day by USPTO. Google now stands as 3rd largest winner of software patents after IBM and Microsoft. It holds over 51,000 patents and patents pending now.
