CASE STUDY : How Toyota Utilized Trainings to handle Asian crisis of 1997
- Toyota incurred losses for four straight years.
- All other companies in Japan resorted to cutting costs by laying off employees. However, Toyota decided to cut all costs except laying off employees.
- They used these four years to train and improve skills of their employees in their work areas.
Result: Toyota grew much faster once the crisis was over and came out of the crisis much stronger than before and with the highest employee loyalty.
We are at a brink of another Economic slowdown due to Novel COVID-19. In these times, the working model of organizations has changed, and people are generally working from home.
The bright side is that we now have more time at our disposal and it might be a good idea to utilize this time in trainings, so once the teams are back in office, they may focus on actual work and chasing the set goals with an added set of skills
